Garrett Smith, founder of InboundMD, recently spoke with Janet M. Kennedy (@GetSocialHealth), the host of the Get Social Health Podcast about using inbound marketing and social media to help doctors attract new patients.
Kennedy says that when she talks to doctors, they understand that they need a website for their practice and that they’re concerned about their online reputation but beyond that they are “digitally clueless.”
Which isn’t surprising when you consider that there are too many online marketing platforms to choose from, practice managers can’t effectively market the practice by themselves, and doctors don’t have time.
The Service Experience Is as Important as the Clinical Result
Running business side of an independent healthcare practice, knowing what SEO means, writing blog posts, and taking pictures of the office for use on a website are all things that aren’t taught in medical school.
But they’re all needed to bring new patients through the door if a doctor is going to grow their practice.
Today, the service experience is just as important as the clinical result, explains Smith.
25% of Independent Doctors Don’t Have a Website
Patients are going online to learn from websites like WebMD or to search for doctors on HealthGrades because 25% of medical practices still don’t have a website.
And for the doctors that do have a website they are oftentimes inaccurate, are missing critical information such as office hours and contact information, they’re improperly promoted, and do not show up in local Google search results.
